Editing out wind?
« on: July 05, 2015, 01:18:06 PM »
Great Wilco show in Scottsdale. But after zero wind caught the edge of a storm and way too much wind for the dpa screens. Figured no way to do this but otherwise the show isn't listenable. Thx, Marc

If Bill can flac then likely he's on top of DB.  He just needs my email addy.

DropBox is a cloud storage system.  You download the DropBox junk to your computer, establish one folder to use as your DB container, add any file you want to that folder... and DB will whisk a copy of it off to the clouds.  Leave your computer on while it does this.
When it's done, it will let you know by the status of its icon in the lower rt corner of your screen.  'Turns green with white check mark.  You can also hover over it w/the mouse and it will report status.

Every time you update or add a file in your DB container, DB will sense it and update the cloud version, or upload what ever is new.

On the cloud side, you access your area by log in and password, where you will see your stored files.  You then you can share those files with anyone you choose.

You can get started for free and open a 2gb sized membership.

If you're with me so far then you should be able to make it work for you.  Call me if not.

Good Luck

While you're waiting, download Traders Little Helper  from the etree.org pages.  Come on, it'll be fun!

So Billy asked whether he should dither down to 16 bit and dl level 8 flac, or just leave at 24 bit?

FWIW, I attempted to reduce the wind noise in Marcs file set and while it's a bit easier to listen to, the cure is almost as bad as the disease.  I attenuated the bass rumble in the 40-130hz range and that's about it. Problem is, there is still a higher frequency component above that which, if it were scrubbed as well, would have grossly impacted the vocals.  I may try to do some selective noise reduction and see how that works but it will be more time consuming.

Get some dead rats for those DPA screens. Should solve the problem for future shows.

Had rats in the bag, rookie mistake, there was zero wind all night and then 25-35 out of nowhere, I've never had that happen in AZ before, only Colorado. By the time I realized how bad it was too late. Never outdoors without running rats or omnis. Had them both in the bag.

Marc is like that long distance runner who suffered a freak accident and lost control of his legs... In the past 4 months he's been able to walk on his own again, but still needs the cane now and then.  ;)
