Identyfying AT capsules
« on: May 13, 2005, 07:49:51 AM »
Hi there,

I recently boutgh a 2nd hand mic from a friend, which was a CMC2 (ATs).
When I got them, I noticed it had an 'H' in the interchangeable capsule. Compared with my other 853s, which are cardioids and marked as 'C'

Does this mean these are hypers?

Do you mean Sound Pro's CMC-2s?

I thought it was CMC-4s and CMC-8s that had interchangeable elements - not the CMC-2s.

I thought the original (old) models were interchangeable, but not the newer SP models.
But I could be wrong.

Anyone else?

Here's a pic of my CMC-2's... I picked these up in January '05.  Looks like they have changeable capsules... or would they unscrew for some other reason? The capsules don't have any type of lettering on them.

That would make sense, because SP started again to produce mics with AT caps this year, so the really new ones are  -again- interchangeables.

Those are AT831's.  A very common cardiod lav. mic.

Yes, the capsules screw off, I've done this myself, but other caps won't fit these threads.  They are smaller than the AT853 (Soundpros CMC-4) and bigger than the AT933(old),ES943(new) smaller mics (Soundpro's CMC-8).  They look similar in build though.  I'm sure they're made by the same company, probably in Japan.  But I've never seen other caps.  Hmm.  Maybe some of the AT Omni lav. mics (AT-350 or something?) would fit, but I've never seen caps for sale.
