Microtrack battery...
« on: December 03, 2005, 06:23:04 AM »
Hello,

Did anyone find some more info on the Microtrack battery?
Capacity? Exact physical size? Brand or type? Replacement candidates?
This could be useful info for just the replaceing of a battery or maybe improve capacity a little.
If you have any info's, hints or tips, please post!

Thanks!

Although there are no markings on the battery itself, it is a 3.7V lithium-polymer with a capacity of about 1150mAh.  I did cycle the battery a few times with a Triton digital battery analyzer to determine its capacity. Every battery I've looked at so far as an upgrade has been too long to fit the real estate. I have the dimensions at work, which I can post on Monday if you want to help with the search.

Thanks for the capacity research, please do post the info!
Could you verify if the MT charges the battery well enough?
Inside the MT, what is in the way of a longer/wider/bigger battery? (need more pics of the inside or I should open myself, need a small howto  >:D)

better to build 5 v converter ( tapco is a good choice, use one that give 1000ma ) which can take everything from 9-18 v and use external power
or there is enouth external li-on  batteries which supply 5 v directly

External gear works OK but makes the device bigger. I'd first like to see what is possible without adding external gear. I do have a USB battery box though, just in case.

The dimensions of the battery are such.

50mm Wide
59mm Tall
4.3mm Thick

Also, there is really no room to spare for a battery of a larger size to fit internally. The battery is literally squeezed in between components on the top and bottom of the circuit board.

Thanks.
So the battery is sandwiched between two circuit boards?
Or is between a board (with parts around) and the backside of the unit?

The logical question:

Does anyobody know where to find a suitable replacement battery with equal or larger capacity? (for cheaper than the price that M-Audio asks for replacing the battery)

I will be emailing some parties next week to find a battery. Some producers, distributors, etc.

In a response from a manufacturer I got info on a  2200 mAH Universal Portable Battery Stick, as small as a thumb they write.
It is slightly wider than a normal (flat) USB plug and aboiut as long as two of these plugs, to give you an idea.
The battery supplies 5V.

With a mini USB plug this would fit to a MT and almost triple the battery time. (1150+2200).

Shenzhen Herocell Technology is the manufacturer. The www.herocell.com domain appears to be not up.
Anyone knows about availability?

i don't know but they used this as replacement in iriver players too.
but you had to switch the polarity i think.

but i notice the mt is 5v and these battery's are 3,7
