Hey John,

Ive ran 2 different M1s and have never had nor heard about this problem.
The one Im borrowing from Shaggy now, got rained on a bit and has moisture
behind the screen so theres a trippy liquid light thing goin on when the lights
on but no problems.

^^ same here, heard about it but never had it happen to me either.
someone call The Mythbusters and see what they can come up with

what is your battery setup?
i have turned my light on and off over and over using only AA's, i also scroll thru the menu for total time left, and never notice any noise from it.  ???

I wouldn't doubt the possibility, but maybe the fact that the D7 and D8 did have this issue, some folks might think the M1 would as well.
FWIW, the backlight in my M1 does not create that "whine" in the analog circuit like my old D7 does.

Weird, in a super quiet room I can hear noise from my m1 when the light is on.  This is noise that I hear from the unit, NOT during playback though.  I was a bit worried when I first heard it, but it does not affect the circuits it's just realtime audible.

Are you running analog in or digital?

I know the light on the D8 will cause this when running analog in...

I'm running analog.  Again you can hear the sound in realtime, but it does not get recorded or affect the recording.
