MT lockup on writing file... Q..
« on: December 11, 2005, 04:56:53 AM »
Does anyone know if there is a way to recover the file thats lost? or if there is a way to actually, oh, I dunno, save the fucking file?? I'm so pissed at this thing right now its on my list of things to get smashed...

taping show tonight, get first three bands, last one played a kick ass set, and the band was actually going to pay me for taping... smoking set, I go to write the file, and the fucking thing locks up. I let it sit while I tore everything down, but still no luck. I removed the flash card vs cycling power, since I lost a file once before when it locked up and I rebooted it... it shows the file name, but its a zero byte file.... this is a nightmare. As of right now, I don't trust this thing.

I'm running the first beta firmware still w/Kingston 45x cf card.. digi in from V3... Grrrr!!!!!

And of course I had the ballz to run it w/o a dat as backup... I've run this thing many times before w/only one other problem (but had backup) so much for my faith in this thing...

ideas?? the shit has got to be somewhere!

Update the firmware. (using a different card!)
Next get one of the FAT(32) file recovery tools and run it over the card.
If you cannot get a decent one use chkdsk /f in a 'DOS' window.

if you have a 0 byte file you may be able to recover the recording. reference the thread below:

good luck, let us know what happens

A live concert to me is exciting because of all the electricity that is generated in the crowd and on stage. It's my favorite part of the business, live concerts.

"chkdsk /f <drive>" is the best way to go IMO

You have to repair the header of the restored file afterwards. I've got a little program in C somewhere which does this... somewhere heh  :P The other way is to open it in hex editor and do it manually, not that easy.

I restored a couple of files from my iRiver this way.... those were the times when RockBox firmware recording wasn't stable as it is now  ;D
