« on: August 21, 2003, 02:53:36 AM »
been seeing all these people running 3 mic mixes and everything ive heard sounds grgeat

i run 391s > wmod ua5

all i have at the moment are the 91 caps

would it be possible to find a decent mic to mix in through the rcas with this setup... and it has to be self powered i guess???

here's a though... you dont have to buy an internally powered mic, you could buy any one you wanted and buy a battery powered phantom power box.

I just picked this up yesterday...
ART Phantom II - Two Channel 12V/48 Phantom Power supply.
it can power 2 mics 12v or 48v with 2 9v batteries. I got it fer 50 bucks new. alot cheaper than that denekie thing the cheapest I saw it for was $135.

I got it at daddys junky music you can find a dealer through arts site

I would recommend trying to use a field mixer (ENG mixer) instead. There are both 3 mic and 4 mic versions that would suit you fine. The biggest setback would be cost. You might be able to pickup one used and save some cash, but they will still set you back around 1K (or more). However, this really is the right way to do it.

So...why not use the UA5 for 3/4 mic mixes?  People use it for SBD/mic mixes and no one seems to bat an eye.

Why the recommendation for a mixer if using 2 pairs of mics?
What will a mixer add to the equation that he doesn't already have?

Never used an ENG mixer, so I'm just ignorant...

I think his whole point was to use the UA-5.

I'd like to try it out as well just for fun. If you do it let me know what you do & how it turns out.
