Those pesky locked files on your refurb JB3s
« on: March 14, 2006, 08:34:17 AM »
I'm sure I'm not the only one who found files loaded on my JB3 when I got it from Creative as a refurb.  Who ever had it before uploaded a bunch of classical MP3s which were locked/read only on the PC side.  Now I want to salvage those before a reformat... Hell, I don't have any heady Rock-mon-in-off :P ... but in this protected state on the JB3 the files won't transfer or delete.

I located a description of how to get them unlocked on Nomadness.com but I fear I'm misunderstanding them or else they were written based on older versions of firmware or a PC OS other than XP.  None of the files I was supposed to look for seemed to exist.

The process involves some hex editing a sort of FAT that the JB3 sends to a cash file on the PC.  I'm pretty leery of the whole thing and if I can't get some coaching here I may just reformat the whole drive.

Any thoughts?  Many thanks.

I'm sure a reformat will clear it.  I was just running with that geek notion that they could be saved.

By the goods I assume you mean you'd hook me up with some Camper Van....ah, Ludwig Van Beethoven or some moe.zart?  ;D ;)

I'm not really jones'in for any classical.  The thrift shop bins down the block normally has tons of old LPs for sale, some of which are in really good shape.  If I ever feel the urge I can always uncover my B&O turntable and do a few V2CD conversions.

Thanks for the offer though.
