to repair or replace....
« on: April 19, 2006, 05:34:51 PM »
....my home deck(da-30)?

i've had some issues w/ it messing up tapes before. like after a quick rewind, because i didn't get the transfer started soon enough, all of a sudden there's this horible noise on the tape that wasn't there before. not sure what the problem is but it's been prety easy to work around. until last night that is, when it ate my oteil/mmw tape. i've got a shitload of transfers to do so i need something asap.

i'm thinking just get another and send this one to prodig sometime down the road. anybody got a better idea?

Suggest replace with Sony PCM-R500 4-motor professional model.  Get one used for ~$400-$500 usd and trust that this is one solid, and very bullet-proof deck that most repair companies have never had to service in all the years these were made.

Get another.  Plenty of good decks new and used for inexpensive prices.

One on Ebay with a BIN at $245 with 380 hours on the heads.

I would jump on it but the seller has a crappy feedback rating.

thanks for the link!   been trying to get away from sony products, but from what i could find these look prety solid. unlike the seller. gotta stir it over a bit but just might give it a shot.
