im i old skool and old of the loop with my MD...
« on: June 21, 2006, 07:57:09 AM »
i went to best buy yesterday to find some MDs. being that this was the 3rd store i went to, best buy only had 2 packs left, in the far back. i know that MDs never took off but for tapers, but im just wondering if rocking my MDs to shows is equal to some old fart still rocking some beta or 8 track...

i know some people have gone digital, which would make my life a lot easier, but it just doesnt feel right.

what are people recording with these days....

thanks.

hard disk recorders (jb3, 722/744, r4) or flash media (r1, microtrack, hdp2) seem to be the current wave. There are still plenty of people running dat too.

um, MD *is* digital. Many folks still use DAT, most seem to have moved on to solid state recorders (Hard Drive or Conpact Flash). You should browse this site for a while. I think most of your questions will be answered...

And, technically speaking, hard drive is not solid state recording because the hard drive has many moving parts. The only real solid state recorders use some sort of flash memory

I just jumped from D7 straight to R-09 flash recorder... and I'm lovin' it.    :)
Having been through MD and DAT... you can't even compare.  What is really
cool is coming home from a show, popping the card in a reader, and BINGO
files on the computer.  Gone are the days of real-time transfers.  Instant
gratification!  I want my files and I want them NOW!!   ;D

Both Best Buy and Circuit City near me stock MDs.  Best Buy carries Sony and Fuji while Circuit City has Sony and Memorex.  I use HI-MD and I love it.  Other then the rare "Access Error" I get when uploading a show I have no issues with it at all.  There is a new HI-MD that is going to be out next week in the States and is supposed to be more "taper friendly" then all previous recorders.
