newbie question for D8, taping tonight?
« on: October 07, 2006, 04:34:15 PM »
So Ive got a D8 that I plan to use with a simple Sony Stereo mic, to tape a friends band in a bar.

I have some newbie questions:
Do I use the line or mic in for the mic input for my D8, and what would be the difference of the two?

Also its a typical bar so would I use the low or high sens setting if I use mic in?

Thanks, I'm a nervous newbie that doesnt know what to do

I'm kind of a rookie too, but from what I've read you can't go wrong with low sens and line in.  If I'm wrong, I'm sure a more experienced taper will straighten me out. :D

I tried a couple other times and got distortion or is it brick wall? at the 12 db dot, where I try to peak levels at?

Check them on the first song and set accordingly I would say.  Or, since this sounds open, you can easily monitor them throughout and adjust if need be.  Always better to be a bit low and boost them later with software than be high and get clipping.
