firewall question
« on: January 23, 2007, 12:09:16 PM »
OK so I decided to start bt my recordings....

After some frustration I was able to open a port to allow other people to connect with my network.

Here's what I'm working with:  Dell desktop and a fujitsu laptop networked thru a linksys router connected to a cable modem. I have McAfee security system installed.  Right now I have the McAfee firewall disabled and the DMX setting on my router enabled.

So my question is:  Do I need to keep my McAfee firewall disabled, and do I need to enable the DMX setting enabled to seed shows?  Is opening a specific port all I really need to do?

you need to keep all firewalls (within the os, security, and router) disabled. know nothing about dmx, but i use azureus and read most of the wikis there -- saw nothing related to it. the thing to pay attention to is the NAT settings which relate to health. you may need to go into the router and open up ports...

Ya I had to go into the router to open up a port.  The seed is working just fine I just don't know much about this topic and wanted to know if I could put the firewall back up once I opened a port.  Thanks!  +T

Becky, do you mean DMZ and not DMX?  If you DMZ'd your router you didn't open a single port, you opened them all.

Ya.  That portforward site rules...I would have never gotten it right without that, and a little help from a friend.

So is it bad to open all of the ports???
