Stand Travel Bag/container
« on: February 10, 2007, 01:00:23 AM »
I will be traveling with the gear by plane next month, and was thinking I should buy a travel case/bag for my 17" Bogen stand.

Anyone have any suggestions other than the PVC pipe with caps on both ends (my backup plan).

Thanks
Greg

I bought a bag.  It's pretty tough.  There is a lot of room to wrap a poncho or blanket around the stand if you want padding during transit.

Heavy-duty poster tube?

FWIW, I've generally been able to carry mine on, but it's proven quite a hassle at times.  Best to check it if you want to reduce hassle, and not take any chances.

The ebay link from your link is no longer listed on ebay, any clue on the sellers name or anything?

I never trust the airlines with anything cardboard, as I have seen way too many bags sitting out in the rain/snow... and i plan to check it either way

Sorry about that dead link.  I looked up the seller on ebay.  Here is one of his ads:

It's a different bag, but looks like its thicker/padded compared to the canvas bags I bought.  You can try contacting him to ask about the bags he used to sell in pairs.

I would see if you could send it ups to where you are going to stay. Then just ship it back home when down.

pvc pipe home made jobbers,... or,... look into fishing rod tubes built for traveling?

places like cabelas have pretty large selections

Ive been looking at those too.  Most of them are around the 70 inch mark, compact.  Best bet is to saw it down to around 48 inches (4 feet), thus you could fit any size stand in it, plus accessories, like umbrellas.

Thanks for finding that!  Looks like I will try this for a whole $12 for 2 bags (anyone need the 2nd one and is local to save on shipping (Dan))?  About 1/3 of the way down it shows

THIS AUCTION IS FOR TWO BAGS.
Worth a chance for the whole 2nd time in 20 years of taping that I have needed to fly with a stand (well only 7 years of stand taping).

Thanks everyone, I hope this helped others!

I use the bag that came with a camp chair (has a carry strap, too)... the camp chair has long since bit the dust, but the bag is a champ and houses my stand everywhere I take it.

Edit:  Here's a pretty sweet one.    ;D
