Converting Wave files to What, MP3???
« on: September 27, 2007, 12:20:48 AM »
Ok guys I need your help again. Got my H4 and simply love the thing. Best $250. I've spent in a long time. But now I have about 10 or 15 SD cards with music on them but I have no idea how to put them pn a CD or on the computer. I would like to be able to load them on an mp3 player but when I went to buy one the clerk said no mp3 player can play wave files. Here is my question How do I get the files into a format that will play on my car cd player? or that can be transferred to an mp3 player? I have a cheap zen nono 512 mp3 player to fool around with to learn how to do it. Do the files have to be convereted from wave files to mp3? Thanks for your help.

first of all 99% of mp3 players play wave files!

as for getting them on the computer looks like the h4 has USB right?  so hook the usb from the h4 to the computer.  copy the files.  cdwave to split into tracks and save as wave or flac.  archive in both.  convert to mp3 if you really want to put on your player.  but like I said 99% of players play wave.  the clerk had no idea what he was talking about.

You'll want to make sure that your bit/sample rate is 16bit/44.1khz for output to CD.

You should be able to drag and drop the files with a USB connection. My R-09 is recognized as a removable drive and I just copy or cut and past the WAVES to a file on my hard drive. LIke Gordon said, CD Wave Editor to track. It's very easy to use. You can then save the individual WAVES and burn them to disc with whatever you're using. I like to burn the disc, then let iTunes convert them to mp3 or whatever for my iPod. I have no idea how you load your mp3 player.  Hope this helps .rWc3523 8)

Itunes is a easy way to convert files to lossy formats. I would first burn your files to CDR as wav and then convert to mp3.
drop files in music or use cd
preferences>
Advanced>
Import>
check Import using (mp3,AIF,wav,etc)
check Setting (quality of mp3 if using lossy)
Okay
select files to covert
click advanced>convert selection to (your choice of import)

I think that you get a better conversion to lossy with foobar2000.  foobar2000.com.  Just open the directory of the files, highlight them and select convert and the drop-down menu will offer you a bunch of selections.  I have not used iTunes but understand the format bit depth and rate are not good.  foobar2000 allows a bunch of choices.  As usual, YMMV
