Looks like they are cranking up production again....

Feb 2022
"Notice of resumption of order acceptance for linear PCM recorders "PCM-D100" and "PCM-D10"
Thank you for your continued patronage of Sony products.

Due to the problem of parts supply, the linear PCM recorders "PCM-D100" and "PCM-D10" could not be supplied sufficiently to meet the demand, so we stopped accepting temporary orders from March 10, 2021. However, we will resume accepting orders.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers during the period when orders are not accepted."

This is good news! Such a high quality recorder should never be discontinued.

Out of curiosity : Does anyone has a suggestion for an affordable/quality shotgun microphone to pair with a D100 (for sound hunting & birds).
I heard nice things about the Sennheiser MKE 600 and the Rode VideoMic GO II but I don't know if it either of those would be a nice fit.

I never knew there was a firmware update for the D100, released back in 2014.

Hello!
Can somebody recommend me an external stereo microphone (modern or vintage) which sounds better than D100 and with price below 300 USD?

I mean D100 mic alternative, when you have M10 and don't want to buy D100

I toss a pair of Naiant XX or LOM mikroUsi in with my M10 for casual travel when even the D100 is too much kit to pack (like this past weekend's family trip upstate). I don't know that either of these sound "better" than the D100's internal mics, but they certainly expand the M10's capabilities especially in regards to the width of the stereo image. For a single point stereo option I'd think an Audio Technica AT8022 would probably sound at least as good as the D100's internal mics. If you don't mind a bit of soldering, you might also check out the DIY version of the Mini-MS from Stickless.me--though again I can't say it sounds better as I'm still waiting for my kit to arrive (& I doubt it will) .

VP88 is nice mic, but...
It costs 1000 USD !!! For 600 i can buy D100

I ask a solution (modern or vintage) with price no more than 300 USD.

I thought about ECM-957 but its frequency response is not such wide as D100

You might like the Røde NT-4 stereo mic. It has true condenser capsules and can run from an internal battery. I know from personal experience that it is compatible with the M10 (with proper 5-pin xlr to stereo 3.5mm male cable). I see them offered used for under $300US, so it would fit your budget. It is a bit heavy, though, and as is usual with any directional mic, will need a suspension if you plan to hand-hold, and a good windscreen if you plan to record outdoors. Best of luck!

As per the second half of my post: Audio Technica's AT8022 is a single point stereo mic that is probably the closest thing to what you're looking for that is available new. It's just over your budget. I haven't used one to comment on its sound quality, but this was mic was on my short list for ambient recording.

An older mic you might check out is the Sony ECM-MS5. There is one currently listed on Reverb with its battery power adapter for $250. I have one of these and it is a pretty good sounding mic. I'd say its sound quality is as good or better than the D100's internal mics, and being midside it gives more flexibility in post--though I rarely make use of that flexibility.

If what you want is a D100 then maybe make do with the M10 until you have enough coin for the D100. An M10 plus mic (and its accoutrements--wind protection, shockmount, grip/pole) isn't going to be the same UX as a D100.

I own an M10 and the internal omnis are what they are. To get any better under $300 USD is a chin scratcher for me. I have zero personal experience, but what about this Tascam TM-2X Stereo Microphone?:

I have the iM2X which is basically the same, just with a 30-pin digital interface for the older iPhone models. The built-in capsules are Primo EM182 which sell at 26 pounds apiece plus tax and shipping at micbooster.com and the audio quality is not sensational but quite decent considering the price.

Friends!
I ask not about any mic - i ask about solution COMPARATIVE IN SOUND with D100 in budget of 300 USD.
NOT sensational - not interesting, because D100 is a greater recorder.

Also i am not interested in mic with frequency response more narrow than 20-20000.

If there are no such solution - i am sorry for my question.

Sounds very interesting and cheap (possible to buy used about 50 USD) but... does it compare with D100 in sound???

So, why did you ask about the Tascam mic? The link you provided clearly says it doesn't go below 50 Hz.

Just to make things clear: you're looking for a sensational microphone that covers 20 Hz - 20 kHz and all that below 300 USD? That right?
