Been listening to a lot of sample comparisons of his product line...pretty impressive stuff.  I think he started with modding Oktavas and now has his own line of products. He does a great job of producing the Nuemann and Schoeps sound for significantly less coin.

Good deals on matched sets.  Was curious if anyone in the TS community were running his stuff.

I like the Oktavas.   My fave WSP recording of the year in 08 from Vegas was Oktavas...way better than any other source I heard of that show.  Mods are supposed to really improve.  He sells modded versions of all the caps and bodies.

I know how to use Google and all, but could you post a link? Assuming he has a web page?

^^ thanks for posting the link. Helps others quickly see what these mods are too

Interesting indeed! Without shelling out the $$ to find out myself, consider me interested in how they really compare to the real deal!

Busman is half the price of Jolly in reference to Oktava modding and it is pretty much the same mod as jolly but done by him. He did my MC-012 bodies in 08 and they sound amazing(spaced omni's). I would be willing to loan out if someone wants to try out.

I taped both of these using Joly modded MK-012 with cardioid caps.

I have been using his MJE-384K capsules for my Rode NT5's for a few months now. Really nice. A while ago I recorded one of my band's concerts. This is a wind band, about 35 people in a horseshoe in front of the conductor. The mics were behind and above the conductor in roughly NOS configuration.

Very nice results. I had to add about 3dB shelf EQ above 2000Hz or so so make the trumpets sound like trumpets. Took the EQ very well.

I like them.

I just tried to ABX the MJ cap sample vs the NT5 cap sample on the Joly web page and definitely could not tell them apart. I'm very pleasantly surprised that a mic seller offers level matched same source clips for comparison.

I found my MJE-384K caps to be VERY different from the standard NT5 caps. For my purposes, the NT5 caps are a little "harsh", while the MJE-384K's are much more mellow.

Regards, Christine
