I just got the soundpure lsd2, I just couldn't pass up a brand new lsd2 for $499 shipped. I'm gonna run it onstage and in the studio, I probably won't take it to the section, and fob is kinda out of the question. I can't wait to hear it onstage, Jan. 20th is next show.

When I first got mine I ran it with a deneke PS-2 and transformers. Sounds good that way. I think it is a perfect match with the T-mod UA-5.

As long as you give it phantom, any pre will work. Not sure of any gear that would be a bad match, but be aware it needs more gain than any other mic I've ever run, but that could just be an LD thing.

Do you use the LSD2 with the UA-5? On average, what gain setting do you use? I've used a pair of mics both with a pmod UA-5 and with PS-2 > line transformers. With mics > pmod UA-5, gain was often about 3:00. With PS-2 > line transformers, I could get similar output at 7-8 on my M1. If the LSD2 has a similar output as those mics, I'd be ok without a pre.

With the LSD2 and UA-5, I have to set it at 3 or 4 o'clock and peak @ -3. With my Oktavas or AKGs I'd get between -3 and 0 without having to go past 2 or 3 o'clock. Not a huge difference, but for a quiet show w/transformers you'd have problems.

The LSD2 obviously shines on stage, but I've gotten great results from the balcony rail in small theaters and outdoors back in the section.

Go ahead and get it. Its not like your losing the total investment if you don't like it or use it enough. I love it but it may only get out of the house 6 times or so this year.

This is not the thing to get if it is your only mic, but what an awesome tool to have for the right circumstance. I use mine a couple times a month, but not as often as other mics.

finding a t-mod can be tough -- might be better off looking for an oade digimod and getting doug to t-mod it for ya.

Also, I wouldn't rule this out at all for stand-based fob use.  Though it's surprisingly large, since it's oriented vertically, it's actually pretty unobtrusive, and if covered by speaker cloth can actually be lower profile than an active capsue-based setup.

Finally, I find it to be surprisingly versitle, especially when run in mid-side mode and mixed down post-show.

channer-
when you get the m1290's, compare them to the lsd2.  i currently have 1290s and would see the lsd2 as an upgrade.
what shockmount is used with the lsd2?

i looked up the lsd2 on archive and got this incredible RRE recording.  great imaging.

Running Blumlien gives the best imaging I've ever heard.
