really stupid spark xl(mac) question

um, how do i put this, spark xl2.8 will only open .mp3 files on my 2 month old emac(10.3.7/1.25/512).
myself and another have gone through every setting in the preferences page, and no matter what, it will not open .sdii, .aiff or .wav...only .mp3   ???

where is the magic setting or what am i missing?

what happens when you go to file > open and choose an aiff or wav file?

those files are greyed out. we cant drag the files in either...

this is really weird. given her a reboot now.
the only time we can get it to recognize a .aiff file as valid is if we import/quicktime, but then spark crashes
