Title: ADK LE Hamburg or Vienna Editions
Post by: RRobar on March 09, 2004, 04:26:30 PM
Anyone know much about these? From what I read the Hamburg models are supposed to be similar to U89's. which interests me very much. I know they are fixed caps. The ADK web site lists matched pairs for $1299. WHich seems really high since the TL's can be had for less (even with teh recent price increase).

From what I've read about the Hamburg and Vienna models is that they are slight mods of the A51S mics.

I think the Hamburg is a warm mod and the Vienna is a presence mod (in general terms).  DL the PDFs on the LE versions of each and read on...

You can also ask ADK yourself at the ADK Forum: http://www.adkmic.com/forum

There for a while I wanted some Hamburgs... but I'm sticking with my A51S LEs for a while longer...

Sound professionals has the matched sets of the Hamburgs or the vienna's for $795. Not to bad but the TL's are almost thatmuch are they not?

Sound Professionals is still trying to make as much money as possible. Shop around. You can find these for $500 if you look. As far as comparing them to the U89's, I think that is a stretch. I have owned two sets of the original LE's, and there were little to no similarites. I would personally go with the TL's. Check out some good TL > V2 > MMe/modSBM-1 tapes and I think you may agree.

Thanks Jason, I planned on looking around a little bit. I'm not really expecting to get U89 sound out a $500 mic. But I'm interested as they seem to be a warmer sound than the standard LE's. I'm still just looking mostly. SInce work bought me this G4iBook I'm kind of looking to build a nice little 24bit rig for under $1000. The TL's are not out of the question. But in order to get this done with spousal aproval I need to keep the costs in mind.
