Recorder testing
« on: January 22, 2011, 06:08:18 PM »
Hey All,

Didn't know which sub-forum to ask this, so I thought I'd ask in here first:

I'd like to learn how to test/measure my recorder's performance. What kind of hardware/software is needed to do testing like the pdf referenced in this thread:

http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=142139.msg1833857#msg1833857

Or like Guy's data here:

http://www.sonicstudios.com/ls10revw.htm

Does this kind of analysis (freq. response, self noise, channel separation, etc.) require very specialized gear like o-scopes, or can I do it by generating pure tones in software and then recording that to compare to the original with software, etc.

Thanks for any advice/links/pointers!
