CDWav 1.95 and FLAC
« on: May 23, 2007, 12:13:52 PM »
So if I save off my files directly to flac instead of wav using the new CDWav, do I still have to run flac/flac frontend to create the flac fingerprint file?

Yes.  The FLAC Fingerprint is the equivalent of having an MD5 files with SHN's.  One extra step unfortunately.

but, you are much better off using something other than CD Wave to compress to FLAC.
as confirmed in this thread:
http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,80955.0/all.html
CD Wave uses a very old version of FLAC, v1.1.0, which is many years old and several version ago.
The most current version of FLAC, v1.1.4, will get your better compression ratios and quicker compression times.

Excellent, I'll keep doing what I've been doing then, CDWav to split and Flac Frontend for everything after that.

you may want to also look into Trader's Little Helper - you can quickly create MD5 and FFP in the same window and can do all the SHNTOOL verifications as well

i agree about skipping CDWave for FLAC

Sorry to hijack, but looks like the OP got his question answered...  When I hit the Fingerprint buttion on the flac frontend, it creates a text file.  The text file is empty with no data in it.  Any idea what I am doing wrong besides using Vista64bit?

thanks!

True love is hard to find, sometimes you think you have true love and then you catch the early flight home from San Diego and a couple of nude people jump out of your bathroom blindfolded like a goddamn magic show ready to double team your girlfriend...

may be a stupid question but you do reload the FLAC files once they have been converted right?

Be careful with your output directory.  When you click the Fingerprint button a "Save to" window appears.  Make sure you know where your saving it and give it the .ffp extension, wsp2007-05-28.mk4.ffp.  Not sure if any of this helps at all, I tried :)
