Title: MicroTrack 10dB Pad
Post by: wando on October 15, 2007, 10:36:05 AM

Do you know if the MicroTrack 10dB Pad can be used witha Zoom H2?
If not, what alternative product do you recommend?

Thanks,
Stef

Someone who owns both may be able to chime in, but it looks to me like it would definitely work. However:
1) Who knows if 10 DB's attenuation would be enough to prevent overloads when recording in extremely loud situations.
2) The reports from the Zoom site are the the mic preamp is fairly noisy when using an external mic, so even if overloading is prevented, when there are quite passages in the performance, the noise may be audible.

It costs as much as the Zoom, but the Church ST-9100 preamp would be the best way to prevent overloads. You could leave the Zoom at unity gain (100, I think, if it is the same as the Zoom H-4) and attenuate (or boost, if necessary) with the Church. Unity gain on the Church is the 11:00 position. Anything below that attenuates and it is capable of attenuating the signal all the way down to 0.
