Title: 120w v. 150w

so I just talked to the Oade's... the 2000es is $535 and the 3000es is $695

my current amp is 120w and seems fine to me. Will I really benefit from the additional 30w's or will I be just as happy with the 2000es?

fwiw - I live in an apartment and while I can listen and pretty healthy levels I can't really push it to "concert levels"

hi there;

you'll probably will never notice the difference in 30w of difference.  a good "120w" rated amp can deliver much more than that when needed, as in sudden burst of music and such.  these wattage ratings for amps are so out of skew sometimes, it's not even funny.

+$160 for +30W? marketing BS, you'll never notice.

I can drive my Polk LS90 towers to ear-bleeding volume with a 60-watt Hafler Mosfet amp.

Depends on the efficiency of the speakers. If you're running ribbons you'll need all the juice you can get, but I doubt you'd notice that difference on most speakers.

I considered the 2000es and then went for the 3000es since it had more inputs.  If you ever think you might upgrade your system to be a HT system this might be important.  I don't think the 2000es had enough digital inputs to have digi cable/satellite, DAT, and CD/DVD -- though it might have been my DVD recorder that put it over the edge.

fwiw, I find the 150w rating for the 3000es to be bogus.  sounds more like 120w to me.

another reason to go for the 3000 is the removeable (upgradeable) power cable

the 2000 has 1 coax and 4 optical inputs.
