Scott,
for us Windows users who are a bit unfamiliar with xACT, this is just for compressing/decompressing SHN/FLAC, etc, etc...

Am I right that this does not include the DVD-Audio stuff?  is that going to be a seperate GUI unrelated to this stuff for seeding shows?  just curious, and thanks for all your time, energy, and effort.

this is for compressing/decompressing shn/flac, for creating/verifying md5s, for creating/checking ffps, verifying flac, and  it's also a full GUI for shntool. it has some other cool things in it, like tracklisting creation for info files, complete with names and lengths.  just cut and past to your info file...

yes. many thanks...

a thought - is there any way to incorporate the tag/rename stuff..?

or, make it so when "banyan2005-12-28d1t01.wav" becomes "banyan2005-12-28d1t01.flac" instead of "banyan2005-12-28d1t01.wav.flac"

or is this stuff already there, and i just missed something obvious..?

Thats a cool little app. I'll second macdaddy's request for tagging/renaming. With those components this would be the true killer app...

woops, i had forgottten to strip out the .wav extension when converting to flac.  i can do that easily

i haven't put in the time in to setting flac tags yet.  i'll get to that sometime soon.

i can put a batch rename tab in there if you want.  it'll ask for a prefix, then rename all the files in there with the prefix + number (from 1 - however many files).  that sound good?  it's the same way the mac xACT works (mac version does a lot more..windows version is still very incomplete)

i still may add my own java version of EAC but i haven't fully tested it yet

I then created a new folder name and it shows .5.3 now. ;)

any chance we can get the fix sbe to process just one file, or to at least fix the last file in the set..?

now i just get the "need two or more files to process" which means i have to leave that last sbe in there. the command line will fix this last guy...

i swear i am not bitching - i figured you wanted a bit of feedback...and thanks for stripping the "wav" outta the filename when encoding...

"fixing" takes samples from the previous or next track.  you can't just "fix" 1 file.  you can pad it with zeros, though.

i can add the pad funtion when i get back to finishing it...

In the meantime, couldn't one simply add a dummy last track that is nothing but silence?

I've run into a possible issue with xACT -- I have a 300gig drive full of flacs and wanted to test all of the flacs before backing up the drive by overwriting a prior archive on another drive.

I searched the drive for *.flac (finding around 9,000 flac files), selected all 9,000 files, dragged 'em into xACT and selected the test option from within xACT
Around 30 hours later, xACT completed its testing and I copied its test log into a word document (200 pages long).

Reviewing the log, I was shocked to find a significant number of failed tracks (probably 1 out of 50-60 tracks failed).

To play it safe, I fired up the windows flac frontend and started individually testing each failed track from within the flac frontend.  Almost all of the trackes that failed in xACT passed without problem when tested in flac frontend.

So, I'm trying to determine whether this is an xACT issue . . . .

i've been extremely busy at work lately, so the last thing i've wanted to do in spare time is more coding.  when things settle down a bit, i'll finish it up and redo the interface a bit...

what happens when you try those same failed flacs in xACT a second time?  that could show if it's an xACT thing

they pass...

this has happened to me on an apple (osx) testing with ffp and md5, too...

but they always pass, either on a subsequent try or with another program doing the verifying...

Scott -- no worries, just thought I'd provide some feedback.

Macdaddy -- glad to hear I'm not alone

Great program for "normal" uses for sure.  I'm planning on creating md5 checksums of all of my flacs once I've confirmed verification to simplify the archive confirmation process . . .

Thanks

I like the new interface, but it doesn't seem to be working.
I pretty much only use this program for shntool, and so far, the only part that I've tested is the shntool "len" function

I can drag the files (they're 16/44.1 FLAC files) into the little window, but when I press the "get len" button, nothing happens.
also, when I click on the "clear files" button, again, nothing happens.  and when I click on the "add files" button, nothing happens.

as always, thanks for all the effort into this project

Yeah, I have the same problems. None of the buttons work. Add files, remove files, shntool, FFP, etc.

I was a fan of the other layout better. Just my opinion though.

Thanks for the hard work!

this is closer to the mac layout, though a little different.  i'm going to get it looking just like the mac one...

the file list doesn't need to take up so much space (like in the first versions for windows) so that's why the mac version has always had a smaller file list

i'll post a working version later today maybe...

ok, with the latest version, 0.5.5, I've noticed a couple of things.

when fixing SBE, using the "round option" and the WAV output format, when I check off the "Remove '-fixed' suffix", all the fixed file names still have the '-fixed' suffix.  not the end of the world, but probably pretty easy to fix.

also, I've found with the new version, the output windows aren't wide enough, and you need to scroll to the left/right.  with previous versions, the output window would be wide enough to view the whole output without scrolling. again, not a deal breaker, but probably something that would be easy to fix and would certainly make it more convenient.  in case I'm not being clear, I've attached a screen shot below:

thanks again for putting together this great GUI

scott, this is very nice...just downloaded and played with it for the first time and it's great having everything you need for compression etc in one handy tool!

here's a feature request...could you add the ability to create a .cue file from a list of wav's or flac's based on track time?  that way, if i forget to save the cue file on a 24-bit wav (like i always do), when i go back to split the 16-bit file i can just load the 24-bit wav's, create a .cue list, and then apply it to the 16-bit version in cd wave without having to track it again.  i think programs that do this do exist...can xACT?

i can add the shntool cue function, which creates a cue sheet from a list of files.  so you can create a cue sheet from your 24 bit files using xACT and then split the large 16 bit file using the split function in xACT by feeding it the cue sheet.   it should also split on sector boundaries by default

looks like today is a sick day for me, so i should be able to put this in sometime today.  the mac version has had this functionality for a while now, so it's easy to do

awesome!   +T and thanks Scott.  Got a link?

Also, does anyone know why 24bit files recorded by the MT2496 have weird header file size issues in cd wave and what is the appropriate action to take?  i can't nail it down because i never remember what i pick, but if i split the file in cd wave (either trusting the header or not, can't remember which) then dvd-audiofile doesn't pick up any track times when i drag the wav's over.  i know, totally off topic!!

It shouldn't matter if you pick yes or no.  I remember reading that in another thread somewhere on here.  Also, make sure to check "Alternative 24bit Source" (i think thats what it is) when you save.  I don't know why dvd-audiofile doesn't pick up the track times though.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.
