Linux and Audacity
« on: August 14, 2012, 01:05:02 PM »
Is there ANY Linux distro out there - that Audacity will actually work in?

I've tried a few editions of Mint, and Ubuntu - and several different computers - same issues.

Basically it just doesnt work...any minor mousing around in a wav causes lockups...totally ridiculous.

This has persisted through the 1.3 > 2.01 series...

This used to work wonderfully back in the Mint 9 days....but Audacity seems to have taken a shit on the Linux side...

Anyone else having similar issues....? I haven't really pursued this on the Audacity support side  - yet...

Maybe a hardware problem? A dying hard drive will cause lockups.

This also has not be an issue for me. Post the steps to replicate so we can all test this out. Have you submitted a bug / located a bug report for this issue?

I've had the same issue with totally different hardware.

Eventually - mousing around in a wav will cause a lockup...

I just did a fresh Mint 13 install - added Audacity 2.0...opened a wav file, and within 2 mouse clicks...locked up...

Could it be my mouse? Its (probably) the only common factor. Just a standard Logitec that works fine otherwise.

Just a wild guess, but could the wave file be corrupt?

I have run Audacity on Linux for years.  I've never been even close to cutting edge however,  always running  Debian stable and whatever package they provide.  your sound card has to be supported by the kernel of course.  I remember years ago I had a dual boot Linux and Win98 laptop and the Linux was bombproof with Audacity where Win98 was always messed up.

Also running Mint 13. No problems at all with Audacity.
