3 wire pin configuation for SP 3.5 mm stereo 853 mics
« on: May 06, 2007, 05:14:32 PM »
I have a customer that has some SP mics they are "EACH" terminated with 3.5 mm stereo plugs. I was wondering if anyone knew what the ring was on the stereo connector ( mic output or bias input ) if anyone can let me know that would be great. I dont have the mics in my position or I would figure it out for my self.. Any help would be appreciated. I just need to know what color wire goes where..

Chris
Ps.. I would assume its tip= signal ring= bias But I am not sure.

I found the information out from my customer..

The tip is the red wire or + Bias input
The ring is the Yellow wire or Audio out.
The sleeve is of course ground.

For anyone that needs to know this..

Would this be the same for some AT 853's?  I need to rewire some 853's for a 3-wire CA-9100 w/ 2 stereo 1/8 connectors.  thanks!

Thanks, Chris, but that's not exactly what I was asking--sorry if I wasn't clear.  For some reason I have in the back of my mind that the SP mics are wired opposite of the AT mics and I was trying to verify the T/R/S protocol.  I'm removing the phantom adapters on my AT 853's and am adding some stereo 1/8 connectors for a 3-wire 9100.

This would be a good question for SP not me since I am not familiar with how they wire things. I did find out that
the tip is the red wire or + Bias input
The ring is the Yellow wire or Audio out.
The sleeve is of course ground.

So if you were going to "cut the ends off" and wire to a 3 wire mini xlr you would do the following.

Pin 1 = Ground wire
Pin 2 = Yellow wire
Pin 3 = Red wire
