AKG CK1 vs CK61
« on: April 03, 2022, 12:42:06 PM »
I’m looking for people’s views on CK1 caps vs CK61 caps. I have AKG 460’s with reducer rings and truly love the clarity with those mics when I run them onstage. I have CK63 hyper caps I run in the section which sound amazing. I’ve heard Duncan’s 460/CK61 recordings which sound great too.

Which do you prefer, CK1’s or CK61’s ??

ck1s with the a60s sound better to me in MOST taping applications
the 61s are a bit more flat and sound better in closer micing situations than audience recording

kindms and I have both. Our ck1's are old and not matched well , so we don't use them often, although I would go with the frequency response info from darby to my ears the ck1's are better for diffuse OTS type situations. I'd use the ck61's in any of the same situations knowing it is  bit flatter in the 2-7kHz range

.for clarity- between us, we have 1 pr ck1; 3 pair ck61 ULS;
music IS love

When you get confused, listen to the music play!

Duncan and I did the AKG test at Deer Creek

AKG 460/CK3 > 722 > 744
AKG 460/CK63 > 744

Personally I think the CK63's are much clearer sounding but keep in mind that my CK63's were just rebuilt by AKG and are essentially brand new whereas the CK3's are quite old.
