Title: Dream playback system
Post by: Wes on July 30, 2003, 03:29:36 PM
I have a playback system that I can almost taste I want it so bad..   Whats your dream system?? mine is:

1 Arcam AV8 preamp/processor
2 Arcam PV7 amps (for biamping)
2 B&W Nautilus 800 (for front L&R channels) ((really would like the Prestige-model Nautilus, but I doubt I could ever make that a reality))
1 B&W HTM-1 (Center channel)
4 B&W Nautilus N805 (for side and rear channels)
1 B&W ASW-850 (sub)
1 50" Pioneer Pro-1000D Plasma TV
Luminous Synchestra Interconnects and Speaker Cable

Arcam:

Plasma TV:

Cables:

That would be a ~$40K surround sound home theatre system.  (Can you tell I'm bored at work today?)

Like Scott, I also have a friend who's dad is loaded. His dad is an old-school audiophile and had a room designed for playback. Audio Design Associates electronics and Snell speakers. The room alone must be over 250k.

I love bringing my stuff and other great recordings there.

I'm thinking more along the lines of some old Genesis or possibly the JM Lab Utopias.  All powered by Acoustic Research tubes.  Projector would be a 9" Barco CRT fed by an HTPC onto a 110" perf screen.  Would have acoustic treatments maily for 2 channel, but would be nice for theater as well.  Luminoius cables are nice, but would have to check around with others.

The WATT Puppies are amazing speakers and I surprised anyone here is allowed in a $250K room :)

i've got some 4th generation analog panic from 95 that I'm sure would sing in a 250k room!  8)

I wouldn't mind some Audio Research gear either.  Heard it in a dealer "showcase" system, the kind that costs a year's salary and my heart melted.  I also want one of those hard drive music systems that Krell (?) or is it Linn makes.  You can install it in a room by the computer, upload whatever kind of music in whatever kind of file format that you would like, and run it to the speakers which would be some B&W Natuilus.  For a CD player, give me one of those Meridian jobs anyday of the week.  Totally future-proof, CD, DVD-A, SACD, and everything in between.

Analog tape deck would be my Sony KA2ES deck.  Phono would be that Rockport Sirius III which costs like $75,000.  I have about 10 records; I just want to be able to say that my record player costs as much as your Lexus.

Are those the Nagra amps in that picture?

not bad!  Its not often enough that I get to listen to a system that will literally make the hair stand up on the back of your neck.

That is a complete nagra setup in that picture. ~$200K worth of gear, and thats without speakers.

BAT tubes > Avantgarde Duo or Trio's.  I can't remember the source (some sick turntable though) or the exact model #'s, but it sounded great :)  The B&W 800's or 801's sounded great as well.

Like recording gear....you needent spend a fortune to have ass kicking playback.  You can spend less than $2k and have a system that holds its own against some $10k setups.  Its all about good choices in gear, a great room and knowing how to use set it up.
:)
sounds like taping.  Good choices in gear, a great room and kowhing how to use it. The more of the last two you have, the less of the first one you need.
