I've seen the "stubby" DIY stand at TNT Audio, but I'm not sure if that's the way I want to go. I'm looking for something cheap to use for my old Sony speakers (man, they were decent before they went all mass market). It'll probably just be a temporary solution until I get new speakers and stands.
My DIY skills are good, but I'll be lacking workspace and electronic tools at my new apartment.

I have a GREAT link for you Matt.. Unbelievably simple and cheap :) Easy to pack to move too as they disassemble..
This is a great site all around, be sure and poke around when your done w/these designs!

Also, I expanded the size of the design to fit my speakers accordingly.. just make sure the base is bigger then the stand part and you'll be fine..
Here's what's in my listening room right now:

Thanks for the links - those stands are perfect until I can upgrade!
I'm also building the TNT Flexy as a gear rack.
