advice for Cardioid microphone

Hello tapers!

i want an advice for a cardiod microphone if it is good for taping concert, would it be good choice for small venues, can i get better audio from the band and not very much from audience?

i have  Core Sound Binaural and roland CS-10EM both are great for record with more "ambient" sound, so in my head i think i can get 2 recordings one just mostly the band (recorded with cardio mics) and second recoding with more "ambient" sound , do you think this is a good idea or am i just delusional?

It may not work every time but lots of people record with 2 stereo sources and mix them together. Cardioid mics will still pick up the room, the crowd and whatnot but they are directional picking up more of what they are pointed at than from behind or (somewhat) the sides.

If you use two separate recorders the recordings will not be synced together due to different clocks. That can be worked around but it can also be a bit of a pain.

Where are you recording in Costa Rica? I didn't see hardly any live bands when I was there but it's been many years ago and I spent more time traveling and hiking than seeking out music.

im already aware about cardiod mics can get some "room" sounds but i have 2 omnidirrectional mics so i guess i could help to get a "clear" music thos cardiod unidirrectional mics

i dont know where you went , but in san jose, we have a venue that has at least 1 concert (metal or rock) in month , so my plan is recording in that place (before of some testing in smaller venue) and also we have some bar venues that are mostly for local bands (which also wanna record them), basically tyou can get a concert every weekend here we are small country but also is great for that too

Since it sounds like you'll be recording in the same places a lot, any chance you could grab the PA mix?

I generally like to get the SBD (PA mix) for direct sound and omnis for ambience, but that's just me.

Running some cards (or subcards!), especially on stage, will definitely get you a "cleaner" (less audience sound) tape, yes.
