There's a list of them that come up when you push the key during setup. There are also "advanced" and a few other settings. Basically this setting dictates which hardware abstraction layer (HAL) is used by the OS. I know it has to do with power saving features, among other things. Can anyone clarify further?

i had to deal with this for a while when trying to get my picturebook to work 24bit with my usbpre, but it never worked right and i had more problems in the standard pc mode than i wanted to deal with because certain drivers didn't work right i believe...hopefully YMWV (your mileage will vary)

Yeah - I'll second that. You might be entering a mine field. I think it'll be up to you to manage the IRQ conflicts and you probably have too many devices for permanent allocations. With a regular install, the devices only appear to be sharing one IRQ - windows is dynamically allocating them.

right click 'My Computer
properties
device manager
view, resources by type
then expand the 'Interrupt Request' section to see the allocation - they're not really all on IRQ9.

i decided yesterday once i saw wes' post about changing the OS to standard PC mode and the problems that might raise to just suck it up and get the nuendo digiset (little cheaper than the multiset w/o the analog i/o)...it just doesn't seem to me that the testing and support for this product was sufficient to make it as reliable as I'd hoped. i'd rather be confident that the system is gonna work the way i want it. and given how much less of a strain on pc resources the nuendo is versus something working exclusively off the firewire bus, it seems like an overall much more reliable solution.

It has to do with interrupt allocation. Windows asigns different devices to use different irq's when set up in their aspi auto feature. The stadard PC mode uses more power, but allows for each device to sit on its own irq port, thus not sharing resources and enabling its full functionality on that particular irq. My windows 2000 pro I use is set up as standard PC. Often you can by pass all the BS by going into bios and changing your os type from plug and play to non-plug and play. I would try that first, it generally works quite well.
