Hi. From what I can see in the owners' manuals, etc., no Sound Devices digital interface appears to support 16-bit recording. They all have 24-bit quantization without any option to dither for 16-bit recording. Or have I overlooked something?
The models I'm particularly interested in are the USBPre 2 and the MixPre-D.
--best regards
P.S.: Let's please not get into a debate about why I want the 16-bit option; I just do.

As I understand it, that's correct. The 7 series would do 16bit recording with dither, but neither of the newest preamp/adc combos will.

The usb pre 1.5 supports 16 bit... and 24 bit recording, but only 16 bit playback. Also only operates on 32bit os.

The small AETA MIXY (http://www.aeta-audio.com/index.php?id=mixy) is 16-bit out on the USB output, though it is 24-bit on the optical and AES3/S-PDIF outputs.
I can't see any way of changing the digital outs, but the USB is always 16-bits.
If this helps?
