format time of r09 & 4gig sd card?

im trying to format the card in the r09 but it sure seems to be taking a long time...like an hour....is this 'right'?

I've never owned the original R09, but my educated guess would be that an hour is very, very, NOT right.

when i format my 8gb card in the HR it takes under a minute .

i got it to reformat a-ok via windoze explorer > usb > r09....nice fellow that loaned it to me said there was a firmware upgrade not on the machine which (i think) was giving me false amount of time left on card after reformat...

all worked out well

Glad to hear it... card should take about 30 seconds to format in the machine.  It takes that, at the most, to format my 16GB card. :)

Is there any kind of menu option for a full format? I know on one of my small recorders either the Olympus LS-10- or the Tascam DR-07, there is an option for this. I tried it once (once being the operative word), and it took about an hour maybe longer on a 16gb card. The regular format option takes under a minute.
