I'd love to know what is inside of the MobilePre.  Even if you didn't use it for an interface, I wonder if the preamp is good.  Eg., is it an INA103 or similar chip.  If so, perhaps you could power with an external 5 or 6V battery.  Use it with a laptop, but also standalone as a preamp, eg., in front of a MD or NJB3.

the DMP-3 runs on 9v AC, making it unsuitable for portable use.

FWIW, I don't know anything about the DMGB-3, but I like the stock UA-5 with a self done digimod better than the mobilepre... I have both.  The mobilepre seems to be a lot more reliable though when it comes to recording to my laptop.  The UA5 has crashed soundforge 5 or 6 times during the middle of recordings.

The mobile pre runs its op-amps with + and - 5volts so the headroom is crap but it would work I have already tried running it from a USB 5volt supply as an analogue pre but it has no digi out

Are you using a windoze machine?  Just curious as I was using a G4 > UA5 to record the Acoustic Planet tour (nonstop for 3.5 hours a night) and had nary a hiccup through the whole tour.

Hey, do you happen to know what opamps are in the mobilepre?  I guess +/-5V is bad, but I'm curious.  There seem to be a real variety of parts inside this stuff...
