I went to my local hobby shop earlier this week and picked up a used one of these for about $30 (retail is about 99, but they had a few in my store, the clerk refered to it as "low-end" but looking at the $200-300 conditioners with all the digital meters i could tell why).  It charges NiMHs at up to 3000mAh, and NiCd up to 6000mAh.  It also will do automatic cycling...plus it can charge from a dc source (via aligator clips) or AC.

i guess i should add that it charges by checking delta V and then switches to a trickle (100mA).
