've been reading a lot of reviews of the Superlux SMKH8K and people are saying they are great mics. They're only 134.00 for the pair w/ accesories! What are the facts and what's the fiction behind this. Anyone familiar with these mics?
-
From the recordings I've heard and the buzz around them, they're an excellent value. Best bet is to download some recordings from archive.org or bt.etree and listen for yourself to decide how you like 'em.

Would you say they are beter than the Oktava MC012's?
-
yes. hands down. better, both in value, and sound.
i think oktava's sound like tin.
-
That's good to know I have been looking for a good inexpensive pair of SD mics and I have not found much of an alternative for the Oktava's. Here is a good price on a matched pair by the way http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=29133.0.
Charles I don't know if this is the pair you were looking at but if it is not you should jump on these! Unfortunatly I don't have the scratch
-
not found a better alternative? how about the studio projects c4?

I was talking about an inexpensive alternative the SP C4's are about $300 a pair compared to under $150 for a pair of the lux's. I like the SP's allot!
-
Sounds like Lux and C4 are both getting nice massives praises for their performance in their price range. I'd be interested to to hear some Lux vs. C4 comparison tapes. We got omni's, cards, and hyper caps too that could be compared.
So far I am real happy with my Superlux's...so much so I may think of upgrading my UA-5 to another mod rather than upgrading mics.
-
hmmmm, I may be inspired by this thread to fly my 'Luxes tonight.
-
A comparison would be great if someone could put it together. On that upgrading the ua-5 rather than the mics, what ua-5 are you running now?
-
PM me with you're street address charles and I can get those tapes out to you. I think you'll really like the supperlux. If you're still looking to purchase supperlux mics in a couple months I'll hook you up with a great deal on mine.
tried to pm you back but wasn't working
-
Do the superlux and the c4 use the same caps??? They are both chinese mics
-
superlux are french..

Just the regular digimod. It was actually a DIY one so I would have to buy a whole new unit. I am thinking a w-mod. I did get to barrow Kevin's w-mod for one show but it was an instore so hard to tell from that.
Oops, I guess the C4's don't have hypers yet. But you could compare the omni's and card's at least on both ;)
I don't see any info on the 'net where Superlux are made specifically. But I'd lean toward chinese because the bodies of the mics had big "Made in China" stickers on them which I prompty removed ;p Doubtful the caps would be interchangable but you never know.

Bro, if those SMKH8s were french they'd be $1000 a pair!
How the hell else would they make these Schoeps knock-offs for less than $200 a pair!?
Jobs aren't going overseas....people are just used to that WalMart mentality. So as a result, we as americans expect to pay $200 a pair of a Schoeps knock-offs or $5 for a folding camping chair! It is a wonder that anyone makes any money!
