so i have one of those philips DVP642 players that plays pretty much anything and i got these dvds from the UK and it says "wrong region" on the screen (and yes i switched it from NTSC to PAL and tried MULTI and neither worked).  we have other dvds from the UK (PAL) and they all work fine.  seems really odd.  anyone else have one of these have any similar problems?  this guy i work with says you can hack it so i'll have to look into that, but i mean it should just play it.

edit:  so i figured it would be a pain to find a fix on google.  after like 5 minutes i find this...

1. Open DVD Player tray (You can do this also by holding down the stop key on your remote for a couple seconds).
2. Type 7, 8, 9, OK, 0 (Zero for region free. Replace the 0 with the region number you want).
3. A 0 (zero) will appear on the bottom left corner of your screen.
4. You should now be ready to rock with other region encoded DVDs!

i mean could it seriously be easier?  it worked.  my problem is my friend told me to do this but press 0-0-0-0.  i opened the tray, hit 7-8-9, hit the OK button in the middle and then 0 and bam it works.  WOW.  never seen anything that simple.

did you try my trick above?  also make sure you have it up to date.  i don't know where we got it, but you download it and burn it to a disc and put it in the player and it updates it.  a sort of firmware i suppose.  i'll ask my brother where he got it if you want.

i tried the door open 7, 8, 9, dealio...no go

my tv must be too old to deal w/ the PAL format

i'd like to try the firmware thing if it's not too big of a deal

i'm really bummed 'cause i got one for my son to play all the burnt music stuff from TTD too

really appreciate it mike
