problem installing xACT
« on: January 20, 2004, 01:57:54 PM »
hey, I'm very new to the mac(as in my new Ibook G4 came in the mail yesterday) and I'm having some trouble with this.  I couldn't find the answers to my questions in any of the forums so.....

anyway I download the .dmg, which then apparantly self-extracts itself(?), which I then copy to the HD like the ReadMe says. I open it then click on the xACT icon it asks if I need shntool, flac, etc installed.  Since I don't have these I click 'Yes'.   It then prompts me for a password which I enter.  It tells me that my password is incorrect.  I've was asked for this password when installing other software and did not have a problem.   I am able to log in and log out of the system without issues.  I am the only user.

so I'm guessing this is something to do with my lack of knowledge of OSX.  not configured correctly??

hope this is something easily remedied

root/admin and normal user

hmmmm

did I set up both of these passwords when I first turned on the computer?   I probably would have made them the same.

so it'll ask for one password or the other depending on what is to be installed?

hmmm, I'm assuming you are using Panther(10.3).
I'm only up to 10.2.7 so I dont know if they changed anything...

certain programs require more "rights/privledges" than others and require the root/admin password

well somehow I managed to figure it out....apparently it makes a difference if you drag the icon or copy & paste it into applications folder

thanks for the response though luvean, I appreciate it

Cool, glad you got it figured out! There's an xACT users group over at groups.yahoo.com - Scott hangs out both there and here and generally responds pretty quickly. I'm surprised he didn't jump on this...must be catatonic somewhere. ;)
