Has anyone had an issue with their v3 where the top red dot lights up on the peak meter for no good reason? It's weird it will go away when you hit the reset button but the it comes back in a few minutes even if I'm running in the green! It doesn't do anything to the recordings though thank God. Just curious if anyone else had this issue.

Have you checked the waveforms, even if nothing is audible? Red lights indicate a peak that hit 0 dB. If nothing looks suspicious I would send grace an email. They're very good wth answering questions.

Thanks hi & lo no no problems in the wave form. I just sent an email to Grace.

What ended up being the problem ?

"Clipping" is when you go over 0 dBFS 3 samples or more. I've kissed the red over lights on the V3 many times and haven't noticed any audible artifacts.
And upon inspection in a wav editor I can't find any squared-off peaks. I'm not saying the V3 is "clipless" but the occasional red over light isn't a big deal...

It definitely isn't clipless, I've clipped plenty of times riding it hot. Especially outdoors on windy days.
Even running conservative and only in green the wind can clip it.
I'm curious to learn myself what your issue is.

So what was wrong ?

This has happened to me a handful of times during many years of use, but I don't think it has ever happened during a recording--only during setup. IIRC it happened at least once when my microphones weren't connected yet.
I seem to recall as well that there was one time when both overload LEDs came on as soon as I powered up the unit (with nothing else connected yet), and that they wouldn't clear when the button was pressed, which did alarm me. But disconnecting the unit from power for a minute solved that problem (again if I recall correctly--otherwise I would have sent the unit in for service right away--but I'm pretty sure that the only time I've ever sent it in was to fix the absolute polarity problem).
Since none of the other LEDs came on (at least while I was looking), it seemed to be a behavior of the LED display logic itself, perhaps a delayed artifact of turning the unit on. If so, that's something I can live with. I haven't heard any spurious noises in the audio, nor seen any unexplained full-scale peaks in the wave audio files. Has the original poster?

OP hasn’t logged in since their last post over 2.5 years ago. I think a response is lost with the sands of time.

So are you saying that 2017 is a whole different year from 2020? And the things that happened in 2017 happened a long time before now?
I dunno, man--that sounds like fake news to me. I mean, I do the responsible thing, and keep re-using the same date book over and over, while you're obviously in the pocket of the calendar industry that wants us to buy a new one every year, which I consider to be ecologically very wasteful.
Same thing with newspapers and magazines; once you have a full year's worth, why for the love of God would anyone buy more of them? But I suppose it takes all kinds.

Mr. Satz, even you are no match for Big Calendar.

I blame Greggery Peccary for the invention of the calendar. DSatz is obviously a very hip young person!!!

This thread is now awesome. Thanks DSatz!!
Big Calendar scammed me back in the late 90's with a Sony Clio. It was a PDA which I think was the product category at the time.
I never forgave them and use only pen and paper now.
