Digital spike in recordings--Marantz PMD-661
« on: February 23, 2012, 11:22:25 PM »
Going back to some older recordings I've noticed almost every show has 1 or 2 digital spikes in the wave. Facts:

-set up is mics > xlr input
-spikes are always identical length (about 1/100th second)
-L & R channel peaks of the spike seem to be the same (-0.2 & -1.3) even in different recordings, regardless of my recording levels
-I always reformat the SD card in the deck once it is filled up (16GB), about every 6-8 recordings

I'm inclined to believe it is not a short in the mic/connection or analog realm but rather an issue with the card or something in the deck. Any ideas as to what is up?

Here is a sample:

thanks

Perhaps try another card - that would be a relatively inexpensive way to determine if the spikes are due to the card you're currently using.  Also, fwiw I always format my card prior to each show. Not sure if that makes a difference, but so far so good...
