...true, but I always liked a vert bar better imo.

I like the vert bar if I'm going to get into a fight after the gig.  But getting a riser for my t-bar allowed me to drop that 8 lb. vert bar out of my bag for 90% of all occasions.

Seriously, if you hit someone with a vert bar, you'd kill 'em.  That's a serious hunk of metal!  I'm really pleased with my riser as an alternative.

Those Avant shocks are not light BUT the superlux ones are crap. Mine began literally falling apart in my hands last show I tried to use them.

Yeah, I taped Revision the other night, and I wound up MASKING TAPING my mics to a half shockmount.

I think I might buy a pair of the Avantone shockmounts and get rid of the heavy AT's that I have.  All noobs should check out these suggestions before buying shockmounts.

avatone shocks SUCK. I used them for 2 shows before selling them

1. theyre WAY TOO HEAVY

2. the rubber bands come off VERY EASILY.....

i use the avantones and agree with bean, they are very heavy. they weigh more than the AT's so if you are planning on moving to them to cut weight look at other options. they work well for me though. as far as the bands coming off, they do come off easily but i use mine with only 4 bands per mount and have no problems anymore. they ship them with extra bands on there that are not needed. using them with my vert bar is heavy, thank goodness i have a sturdy stand.

one good thing about the avantone mounts is that you WILL NOT break them. lose bands maybe, but you will not break them. i thought about drilling out some of the metal to lighten them. they are one solid hunk of metal.

FWIW, I like the Avatone's.  I bought mine new after having used the AT's, Joe Meeks and a variety of other shocks.   While I do agree that they are heavy to me their durability, construction and ability to reduce vibration are just wonderful.  I have run them with all the bands as well as just four bands and haven't had any of them come off unless I did something to pop them off.  I can't imagine that they'd pop off on their own.  Additionally I take my time with them while loading a mic into them.

For me weight is not an issue because i'm running them with full bodied mics anyways which make mounting/clamping options slimmer.  My Superclamp and Shure Vert Bar are heavier anyways.   As far as durability well shit if you can break these suckers then you are a crazier taper than me.  Comparing them to the AT's is a no brainer.  One word, low-pro.  While I loved my AT's the Avatones certainly take up less space visually. 

Alot of what we do is compromise.  Some like expensive cables, some like discount cables.  Some use a $5 fishing tackle bag while some use a Sonicase or PortaBrace.  Some prefer the Joe Meeks mounts and some like the Avatones.   You need to find your own compromise..  For me the Avatone's are the last full bodied mic shock mounts i'll buy and I like that.  I know several who have the Joe Meeks (of which I still have as well) and they're rational is that they're only $7 so if one breaks I'll replace it.  For the $50 I paid I never have to worry about any of that anymore.

So count me in as one vote FOR the Avatone's

after using the  sambra-som, the avantone's and the AT 8415's, my vote goes to teh 8415's theyre more lightweight and lo-pro than the AT 8410's and are alot bvetter onstruction. also, you can upgrade the rubber mounts to the K-Tek K-Sus Heavy Duty rubber mounts(what I have) and are BULLETPROOF. I have had them for 3+ years with the k-tek mounts and they have lasted wonderfully to this point

ONLY downfall is, they cant be used with atives. or a DINa Kwon bar anyway.....the mini-xlr hits the sides of them and they are useless

i have a couple shure a53m's on the way for mya ctives and will let you know how they work out. for actives, i bet theyre a dream come true

QFT.  I love these shocks, small, but durable as hell, and I never have to worry about them breaking. 

I've lost one the bands, but the package comes with 4 extra bands.  Also you can just go to Ace Hardware (or equivalent) and buy the exact same size o-ring, if needed. 

For me, at least, the AT and Sabrasom shocks are too big and clunky to fit in my bag, so I went with the small Avantones and haven't looked back.

They are heavy, but so what?  It's not like you have to hold them up yourself the whole show.  That's what the stand is for.

Allan Holdsworth Trio.   I was seated, which helped, as I would have had to stand the whole time and handhold the rig, which would have been even more uncomfortable.
