Grace performs the optical output mod to current owners' V3s or on pre-sale V3s to new buyers.  I believe cost is around $200 and re-starts the 5-year warranty.  I got mine done this summer and am loving it.  Try searhing the forum, there's a detailed thread with all the info - who to call, how much it costs, etc.

Me too. I even still run a dat for backup. Mod is $195 and well worth it. So nice not needing a converter and battery. All my gear, except stand, fits in a small camcorder bag, LowePro vidcam5.
