Topic: Snake cable questions

Question for the cable people out there.  I'm looking at hooking up my patch bay, channel splitters, channel iso units etc for multi-tracking.  I am fine doing the slodering my self or buying premade if price is right VS quality.  I'm wondering what multichannel snake cable might be recommended.  And or would you just use separate cable and make your own snake.  Has anyone used the Canare MR202 series cable?  If so what did you think.  This is not  a permanent install and will be lugged in and out of shows so decent flexibility in the cable is something I want.  Interested in opinions and also looking to keep cost as low as possible.  As a point of reference I could make a snake out of Canare L4E6S So I'm trying to keep quality somewhere in that range..TIA, Kirk

All the snakes that I have made, for myself or others, have been made with 2 conductor milspec bound together with tech flex.  The biggest i have done was for myself, a 6 channel 40 footer with 1/4 TRS snake.

thanks Ted I do like the weight factor of the silver clad.  The length only has to be 3' at max to connect to racks of gear.  I already have snakes to connect to SBD.

I've had very good luck with stuff from here, I would definitely buy from them again. I think all the handwork is done in a third world country somewhere, but the quality is much better than generic chinese junk or HOSA.  It's not Neutrik, but everything feels very solid, no failures of any kind.

I found one of these CBI split snakes on ebay at a good price...  Neutrik connectors, and I liked the rack form factor better than stage box type.

I've heard nothing but good things from my friends who buy from Audiopile. Price and quality.
They also sell a very tempting 4 channel isolated splitter in a single rack unit.

Agreed, a 16 channel mispec snake would be a beast!!

I have a bunch of Hosa cables of various varieties and haven't had any issues with them. If I owned a sound company I might not use them because they may not hold up to day-to-day abuse but with the minimum care I give them they seem to hold up fine.

I have a couple of HOSA snakes and a Pyle with the molded connectors too.  I haven't had a failure, but I expect someday they will let go right where the cable goes into the molded connector.

my $.02
I made my 12 ch out of L-4E3-P Series.  Really like working with it.  Flexible and durable.
I chose the DIY option so I could customize the overall length, fanout lengths and connector types/configurations.
Mostly, just wanted to stay with star-quad config.

Thanks for feedback and links.  Sometimes it is impossible to beat the prices/quality.  I have hosa, siesmic, with no issues so far.  I might go DIY for some custom lengths, configurations.

I have a Siesmic trs-trs snake because it was cheap and has serviceable connectors. They seem a little on the low quality end but have worked fine.

Decide to buy some pre made snakes and make some custom jumps with the Canare MR202.  Let ya know how things work out. Thanks for the links again, there were some vendors I had not heard of before.  Now all I need to do is have the extra cash for and ISO split snake
