Hey all,
I'm borrowing a V3 to run my 4021s into for Panic in STL. Wondering where to set the gain when taping them fob. In the past I have used the 25 or 30 settings for other bands so I am assuming similar for Panic. Anyone with first hand experience?
Thanks!

I have always run +35 to +38 for FOB at these type of shows with my 4022's.
+40 for taper section @ Phish.
+25 with DPA's sounds really low to me, I have never had to run that low even at the loudest shows. Lowest I have ever run is +30 or so, never gone below that. Maybe your 4021's are more sensitive than my 22's?
Hope this helps, pull some sickies! Team DPA rox 8)

i would start +30 on the big knobs and +5 on the little knob so you have a working range of +30 to +40, should be in that range, i would think.

Thanks for the info. I think I do remember turning it to +30 or+35 when I had it at +25 to start once. Sounds like I will go for +35. 4021s should be the same as your 4022s.

better yet, go eaa>1k. ;)

Well, I will also be running analog out of the V3 > 1K 16/44 for a dat/jb3 copy. Not quite the same but does make for the usual ton of gear.

So what gain setting have you used on the AD1000 when you have done this.

bwahahaha...natelsky only speaks in the abstract, he hasn't run this combo. it probably makes sense to calibrate the adk in advance to the v3 (it's described somewhere on sonicsense's website) so that you don't have to mess with the adk gain during the show and only run off the v3 knobs.

good idea. You can monitor the digi out from the V3 and adjust the AD1000 levels to match exactly what the V3 SPDIF is outputting. Would make for a nice comparison tape!

So I am going to do 4021>V3>744t @ 24/96 & 4021>V3>analog out>AD1000>DAT and JB3 @16/44. Doing it mainly for DAT backup and a 16 bit master but will be interesting to hear the difference in sound.

true, should have qualified to v2>1k, which I have not run but heard tons of times, love it.

marc, you crack me up!!
:)
There is no specific gain range that can be guaranteed for fob, but i have always found that setting the levels before the show so that the 2nd range of lights on the v3 flicker to the house tunes is a good estimate. It should show as around -15 dB on your recording device if i remember correctly.
always kept the trim in the middle at 5 tho as Damon said to allow for ideal adjustments.

that's pretty much what I did, and it works. I look for around -15 during the house music. not foolproof but close.
