V3>D8/M1 Copy Prohibit with levels
« on: April 18, 2005, 09:56:40 AM »
even sending s/pdif.  the d8 would not come out of pause even though it didn't say 'copy prohibit'.  both decks could get levels.

any ideas?  the V3 will soon be going to boulder for optical.

last time I checked, the way to get a sony deck going was "pause-record-pause."

Record>Play is the recommended start up...no need for Pause...

with or without the operational concerns of how to start a sony dat, i'm wondering if anyone has any experience with my question above.

the wierd thing is that the m1 was taking aes most of the day.

regarding the start up procedure of a sony dat, pause>record places the deck in ready position to release pause without any delay in recording, whereas record>play initiates tape into the rollers, head, etc, potentially causing some users to lose the beginning of the event.  taken from first hand experience

please refer to page 10, steps 5 & 6 of the d8 manual for sony authorised start-up procedure.

You shouldnt use Pause with DAT decks...

that would be an unhelpful, unsolicited comment.

not to mention that I've never had a problem doing this.

It also is hell on the heads, and the tape as it sits there and spins over and over on the same spot in the tape...

YMMV...I always avoided "Pause"...

Is it possible the little record-prevention tab on the tape was slid back...?

Really - It would be helpful to know what the deck would do when starting this way...why do think it wouldnt?

Its called "experimenting"...

i agree, if someone is letting their deck sit in pause repeatedly until it times out.  i personally don't know anyone who does this.  but, for initial start-up, everyone i know practice's pause>rec>pause, for both sony and tascam.

no protect tabs were in use.

How is it "unsolicited" - this is a freaking forum - he asked a question - he solicitated...he asked - QUOTE:  "any ideas?"

His DAT deck wont come out of Pause/Rec - Well - Dont use Pause!!! - whats so crazy about that?

At least give it a shot and see what the deck says or does...

not my deck, corkscrew, patcher's decks.  i still have a trashcan, and only use it for archival, and it definitely take signal from a V3.  i'm more worried about the ability to give patchers signal than the other issues this thread has sprouted, other than tim's posting strengths :P  time to call jamie.  i'll report back.

Not for a d-8 or a tascam da-p1.It's pause-record-pause.The record play only works with the sony m-1 and d-100.Asfar as the heads go you definatly don't want to leave your deck paused for along period of time. That will definatly cause your heads to wear out faster.
