Hey Guys!
New to the forums :-)
I'm a filmmaker focusing on narrative and some documentaries. I currently have a Oade modded Marantz 661 which works wonderfully, but definitely needing a preamp.
I've seen DigiGal's excellent cable from the mixpre-d into the marantz. What would you guys recommend? Bypassing the A/D converter in the marantz, and going digital from the mixpre-d or sticking with the 302 which has trim control and letting the marantz do the conversion?
I'm primarily using one channel (boom with NTG-3), and don't have an immediate need for the 2 extra channels in the 302.
As far as optimum sound quality what would you go for?
Any advice would be highly appreciated!

I have a similar setup, as I also run SD MixPre-D AES Out to the S/PDIF D. In on my Marantz PMD661 (OWM). If you only need the two channels, I would go with the MixPre-D and if you need more in the future, you can add a 302 or a 552 and link them to the MixPre-D as a larger mic/line field mixer. They seem to have dropped in pricing (used) with the SD663 on the market. Personally, I prefer and trust the A/D of the SD units and would prefer the MixPre-D, as it has been such an ease to use when I have done single channel Boom recordings.

Excellent info 404, I appreciate it.
Looking forward to getting my hands on a mixpre-d!

I use SD MixPre-D into an OCM 661 using a cable made by DigiGal and I am quite happy with the setup.
