Topic: MT2 - plugged in to mixer --> clip-off danger?

Hi all,

My first post here, as I am about to purchase a portable recording device... and drawn towards the M-Audio Microtrack II. I have always relied on mini-disc before, but it is time to move on.

Two questions, please forgive my inexperience:

-Wanting to tape live dj-sets in clubs, I have read somewhere that sound levels easily get clipped when you hook the MTII up to a (dj) mixer. As far as I understood, that happens because of the high input level and the inability to change anything but gain (upwards only). Is this correct?

-What would you estimate to be the life-cycle of such a device? Is there an MTIII around the corner that I should hold out for?

You can run an attenuator to cut db level in.  M-Audio makes one.
