Topic: Internal power issues with R-09HR

So it works decently well with Alkaline AA's and longer with Lithiums, but I like recording at 24/96 and this takes juice.  I've noticed that my battery level indicator on the device is completely useless (found out the hard way: turned it on before leaving for a gig, saw full battery, only to have the Li's die after a song and a half).  I just bought and charged Taragus 2700mAh AA's, and those lasted about 5 minutes at brightness level 10 and 24/96 (I even tried putting in the Alkalines 1st, setting the power setting to NiMH, then powering down and trying the NiMH batteries, all to no avail). 

So am I pretty much damned to used low-life Alkalines and expensive Li's?  Has anyone else had weird battery issues with the R-09HR?  Any recommendations or advice on what to do next?

Sorry to hear that,but I've never had/heard about issues like the one you're describing.
The battery level indicator is not exactly useless. A little bit lazy, I'd say. Even if your batteries are really low, when you turn your R-09HR
on, it takes a few minutes for the indicator to show how strong/weak your batteries actually are.
Always put fresh AA batteries before a gig. Even running 26/96 you'll have lots of recording time.

I'm in the middle of testing battery length with 2700mAh Sanyos recording at 24bit/96khz and it's been maybe 7 hours and it's going strong still!  I'll update the R-09HR thread with the final results.

No recorder that I know of is calibrated for lithiums. You just need to know if they'll last you 1 or 2 gigs and change accordingly. A lot of people here, including me, seem to like the Sanyo 2000 mA eneloopes. They won't last as long as 2500 NiMh when the NiMh are working well, but they last a long time and they seem to keep working show after show without problems (unlike most NiMh's). If you need more time, just bring a 2nd set of batteries and change between sets. Plus you don't have to charge them right before a show.

I'm sure they'd be good for 5 hours + in an HR.
