Is There Something Smaller than DINa ?
« on: August 28, 2007, 06:38:55 PM »
I need a bar shorter than DINa.  Do they make such an animal?
If not, is there someone here who can make me one?
My val-rigged beach hat setup is just not cutting it.

I have no prob w/any config using the soft weaved derby.
you want it?
:)

also, try just making a custom pipe cleaner mount for the mics.
or the sew in pouches that make align them perfect.

or run XY, in hat.

Thanks, Nick.
I guess a little creativity goes a long way.

I've got a Blues Festival coming up this weekend with an INCREDIBLE lineup.  8)
Hoping for better results than the last festie I did.

I just need to come up with a better method than I used at Doheny, where I came home with disappointing results.
Listening to my recordings, they sound like my mics were pointed towards the sky.
XY is probably a good option.   Whatever I end up doing, I have to make sure they're secure and in line with the music source.

If you come down, Mikey, get in touch.
We've got Platinum passes . . . maybe we'll be able to sneak you up with us.

for XY...you really have to keep your head straight.  its not as forgiving as the near coincident "hat mounts" when it comes to movement.

If you can't space the card caps as wide as you'd like, I'd suggest more angle.  An ortf angle with your mk4's would probably work well as long as you are reasonably close. But ortf is physically a bit wider than dina so that might require slightly closer spacing.

Capsule aim is more critical with the mk41's.  Especially if the primary sound source is a fairly focused stack.

Josephine, why not go to the Microphone University site at DPA?  Get it from the pros.  They have graphs for setting up non-standard variations of the regular ORTF, DIN, and so on.  The price is right.  And DPA does their homework.  Just an idea.  YMMV      8)

Not sure what you are running for a total rig but you are welcome to my 4021's if you want...

They fit nicely in head gear..

Thank you for the offer.   :-*
My mics are fine -- I just need to come up with a better way to run them inside a beach hat.
Last time out in similar conditions, I didn't put much effort into my mic placement . . . and my recordings definitely suffered.
