I use Max to rip from CD to Mac:

Old, but works fine.

I did a shootout between iTunes vs xACT recently (iTunes 12.9.5.5 vs xACT 2.49 or 2.50) and the resultant MD5 result was identical for all files on the silver disc under test.
(I am presently using an external USB 2.0 Samsung slimline BluRay burner)

iTunes won't convert to FLAC for you, but you might like the tagging interface better, since it auto tags things that it can find in the CD database

I second XLD. If you want good metadata control, use it in tandem with MusicBrainz Picard.
