how bout this...
I have a dvd of a slideshow (tons of photos from coventry). anyone know of a program that will strip the jpegs/images off the DVD?
or is it possible that the images were converted to a video file and then converted to DVD, meaning useless to me.

the files were probably converted to a video file...however, if you have powerDVD you can do screen captures with that program...which would allow you to capture each picture.

or intervideo windvd which comes free on most new PCs also has a screen capture feature.

if the DVD will play in a typical DVD settop player (the kind that hook up to a TV), then yes, it was most likely encoded to an MPEG-2 video file. as per DVD spec, the resolution is going to be 720x480 (NTSC format) or 720x576 (PAL format)... unless it's on a CDR as a "VCD" (VideoCD), in which case the resolution would be approximately half the DVD resolution.
